News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
