Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a defensive struggle this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Performance Seals Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 total net yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn stated after the contest.
